Residential Program
Shelter and Support to Expectant and New Mothers
Our Residential Program at Michael House provides expectant and new mothers with their most immediate needs: a warm and safe home, food, counselling, access to medical resources, and the opportunity for a bright future.
These are all essential for the proper nourishment of healthy pregnancies, mothers, and infants. Our Residential Program is our philosophy for care in action. It develops a support infrastructure for the mother with the aim of dismantling the cycle of poverty and providing her and her infant with a circle of security.
Our residence has 24-hour on-site staff that support our residents during pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting of children up to the age of two. Along with the essential support needed to learn effective parenting, our staff provides a safe and supportive environment for mothers and their children at Michael House. Our staff nurtures a relationship of trust to cultivate bonds and abilities that will serve mothers well long after they leave our care.
Families entering the Michael House program can stay up to one year, wheremothers have enough time to complete the residential program and establish healthy parenting patterns. The program teaches mothers essential and effective parenting and life skills including cooking, budgeting, and making healthy life choices for themselves and their children. During their stay, they share a common area with similar mothers, forming the community bonds that will help them and other mothers succeed into the future.
